What is Body Awareness?

Body awareness is the ability to sense and observe our body’s movement, physical sensations, and posture in time and space. It is a vital component of healthy physical, mental, and emotional functioning.

For example, when we are body aware, we can recognize the tension in our body when we are stressed, or the shortness of breath when we are anxious. We can also recognize when we are not properly aligned. so that our posture is not affecting us negatively.

Being body aware helps us become more aware of how our body is feeling and how to better take care of it. It is a skill that requires practice and mindfulness, but that can be greatly rewarding as we learn more about ourselves and our bodies.
